Language Acquisition: French MYP Overview
French communicators progress through various phases of proficiency, developing the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to authentic multimodal texts. Emerging communicators focus on simple texts, identifying explicit and implicit information, and drawing basic conclusions. They express their understanding and opinions using short, simple oral and written language, engaging in rehearsed and spontaneous exchanges on familiar topics with clarity and purpose.
Capable communicators in Phase 4 extend this foundation, tackling both simple and complex texts, and analysing conventions to form conclusions. They participate in authentic, spontaneous conversations, addressing personal, social, and global topics with organized, audience-appropriate communication across a variety of contexts.

Diploma Programme (DP)
Language Acquisition: French DP Overview
At both levels of French Language B (SL and HL), students learn to communicate in the target language in familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
They describe situations, narrate events, make comparisons, explain problems, and state and support their personal opinions on a variety of topics relating to course content. The study of two literary works originally written in the target language is required only at language B HL.
